Happy 10th birthday today to my wonderful granddaughter Ana Fernanda Craft. Sorry I couldn’t be with you today to celebrate, but I will be back in Indianapolis soon.
Susan R. revised our early route this morning, allowing us to hug the coast past Capitola. It was a beautiful blue sky day, warming up fast, with gentle ...

Today’s route was an iconic one: Monterey to Pebble Beach to Big Sur.
We left Monterey on the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail, quickly transitioning to residential streets in Pacific Grove – some beautiful homes. At mile 5, we entered Pebble Beach on the famous 17-Mile Drive: $10 for cars, free for bikes! There was very little ...

As previously noted, today was not a biking day. Instead, we loaded 27 bikes, 27 riders and guides, and lots of luggage onto the trailer, van, sag wagon, and bus for the 4 hour trip. The route took us north to Carmel, then inland to Salinas, where we joined US 101, past Paso Robles, then ...

Back on Route 1, we continued into Morro Bay, a beautiful seaside town, except ...

We wandered out of Pismo Beach into Arroyo Grande this morning, before riding onto SR 1 at mile 8. There was sufficient shoulder and generally reasonable traffic into Guadalupe, where we enjoyed our first sag stop. Along the way, we ...

So. yes, it is 10/21/17 and I didn’t write last night: 86 miles, reunion with Don, farewell to biking friends, I was tired.
Now, after an hour-long massage, I’m ready.
When I awoke yesterday, it was drizzling and I had a sense of dread: long ride in the rain. But the “weather gods” smiled down, and by ...

Long day, great day, short write-up.
Started early this morning as we discovered that the Ventura Marathon/Half Marathon/5K course was going to block streets on my way out of town. So I got to enjoy sunrise over Oxnard.
At mile 20, I joined CA 1, with a plenty wide shoulder and lots of traffic – perfect beach ...

After a delightful breakfast with college friend Jack Yellin in Westchester, Don drove me back to Hermosa Beach to continue my journey.
I was immediately in Redondo Beach, along CA 1, before turning east through Torrance and Carson, definitely urban biking. Even though it was after 9 am, there was plenty of traffic and stop lights ...
