Already a day behind – 70 miles in the heat and the rain took a lot out of me! Think I’ll let the photos tell most of the story.

-
-
We passed through Daytona Beach, but no where near any car-racing establishment.
-
-
-
In Ormond Beach, we crossed the Halifax River.
-
-
Ormond Beach calls itself “The Birthplace of Speed”.
-
-
Once again, large homes – I think this one has steel roof tiles.
-
-
At our first sag stop, 2 very different boats – and Nancy.
-
-
Just after the sag, no more houses, and not much shelter from the lightening and thunder – this is under a dune walkout…
-
-
The storm passes.
-
-
Aarg matie!?
-
-
Reward for surviving the storm.
-
-
A bit of bike washing.
-
-
Nice trail beside the road.
-
-
Next to a bike shop along the trail.
-
-
Always on the lookout for turtles.
-
-
When I saw Marineland on the cue sheet, I expected some crazy Sea World establishment.
-
-
Instead a lovely family beach area.
-
-
Matanzas River Inlet
I took a brief stop at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, but chose not to take the ferry to the Fort.
-
-
The headwind was picking up, so I stopped more often to take photos of beach-side homes.
-
-
-
And a lunch stop with other cyclists.
Going into St Augustine, the route was taking us past Anastasia State Park where we had ended our cross-country ride. I decided to re-visit the beach, without the rain of May 2013.
Also on my way into town, I passed the St Augustine Lighthouse and decided to make a stop.
Crossing the Lion’s bridge from the south – no lions! But the bridge did lift for some sailboats to pass.
Good, long day: 70.44 miles, 338.14 miles from Fort Lauderdale, 566.63 miles from Key West.
Details about our rest day tomorrow – and our first state crossing!
