Overnight, the winds I had experienced at Point Arena caused a serious fire in Santa Rosa, inland from where we were biking today.  Many neighborhoods were evacuated, and, sadly, the fires are not yet contained. For us the effect was smoke and traffic.  The beautiful blue skies of yesterday were now dull and gray; the sun ... Continue reading →

Not as smoky as we got started this morning, and by the end of the ride, we could see blue skies.  Traffic was also lighter along US1.  Sadly no ocean views today. After the sag stop at mile 15, we followed the Tomales River to the Tomales Bay – a huge bay.  At times, we had ... Continue reading →

Started the Rest Day with breakfast at Lighthouse Cafe with Barbara.  Then the hotel shuttle took me to the Larkspur Ferry, a half hour ride into San Francisco.  I walked around for an hour before meeting Radford classmate Kathy Kent Teplitz for lunch – we have known each other for over 50 years!  Delightful meal ... We stopped first at Pescadero Beach, just to enjoy the ocean views.  Then at the Pigeon Point Light Station, now a hostel.  We skipped the bakery in Davenport, but I took a picture ... Barbara, Lola and I wandered into town to Zachary’s for breakfast, then Barbara and I wandered toward the beach.  A bit of shopping, lots of strolling, and just as we were arriving back at the hotel, Donna and Jim Toothman drove up. Donna was my riding partner for much of the 2013 Southern Tier ride.  I ... Continue reading →
