Sights along the route: We had the first sag stop just before Ponte Vedra Beach. At mile 38.5 we were taking a ferry to cross the St. John’s River. After the bridge, we rode on a bike path in Amelia Island State Park to our final destination.

Started the morning with Dolly-gagging:  decided to see the town of Fernandina Beach. Took shelter from early rain at an O’Reilly Auto Parts store – everyone in the group got wet except Lesley who opted for a late departure as our mileage was lower today.  After the rain, just 9 miles into the ride, I crossed ...

I’m so proud of my daughter. She’s been working at Equal Justice USA (EJUSA) for exactly a decade, helping to end the death penalty and build a better criminal justice system. She has educated me along with thousands of others across the country, and I’m now one of EJUSA’s biggest supporters. Will you sponsor me as I bike 2,528 ...

A fun photo from last night’s margarita party.         The temperature this morning was a brisk 57 degrees when we left Folkston this morning; luckily no threat of rain despite a dark cloud for a few miles mid-morning. As noted yesterday, I stayed at the Western Motel, which turned out to be a great improvement over the Relax ...

It was a cool morning as we headed out US 84 – the morning shadows, combined with trucks and rumble strips were a challenge.  The best photo of the day (missed) was of about 20 women surrounding the sag vehicle Bo Peep, due to an error on the cue sheet.  Once the turn mystery was ...

I was somewhat under the weather today, due to inflamed sinuses, likely spring-time allergies.  Chose to ride with my glasses instead of contact lenses, and did a fair number of snot rockets off the bike…. Then I read the post of one of the other riders, Marilyn, a friend from CCST13 – it made me realize ...

As we set out this morning for the longest ride so far (c. 71 miles), I was overwhelmed by the cool air, the lush green of the grass and trees, the blueness of the sky.  I kept thinking of the hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth”, though of course I couldn’t remember all of ...

Our Rest Day is in Point South with little resources in the area:  Wendy’s Subway, McDonald’s, a knife outlet.  After sleeping in – all the way until 7 a.m. – and having breakfast at Denny’s (associated with the hotel), a group of us wandered to the Frampton Plantation, the Low Country Visitor’s Center nearby. While the ...

I have been saving some quotations to add to my blog: “Life is like riding a bicycle – to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”  Albert Einstein “Nothing behind me, everything ahead of me, as is ever so on the road.”  Jack Kerouac And some “stray” photos, many from others cameras and iPhones: And lastly, a poem by ...

We had another early start today, as our route was 80 miles long.  I actually enjoy the early starts because of the coolness of the air, the reduced traffic, and the beautiful shadows through the trees.  Sadly the photos don’t do that beauty justice.  Our first historical marker was for a Presbyterian Church (I am a ...
